Fuji has announced a new firmware update for the X-Pro2 which the company says brings the camera forward to stand alongside the Fuji X-T2 as one of ‘double flagship’ X-series cameras.

The Fuji X-Pro2 firmware update enhances the camera’s autofocus system to bring it in line with the Fuji X-T2… mostly. Mostly?

The Fuji firmware update gives the X-Pro2 the same AF algorithm as the X-T2 but the small print says it doesn’t get the AF customisation options (we discuss this in some depth in our Fuji X-T2 review).

However, it is still a great update to the X-Pro2’s firmware, which should make AF more accurate, as well as AF tracking in AF-C mode.

What’s more, the X-Pro2 firmware update increases the number of focus points from 77 to 91 points (13×7) and from 273 to 325 points (25×13) to improve framing.

Other improvements to the Fuji X-Pro2 include compatibility with Fuji’s new hot-shoe mount flash EF-X500, and the camera’s AUTO POWER OFF will now have 15sec, 30sec and 1min options.

AUTO POWER SAVE function, which was previously only available in Economy mode, is now available as an option in High Performance and Standard modes to allow users to minimise battery power consumption.

Fuji says the firmware update will also leave the AF point position interlocked with parallax will be displayed to provide a more accurate and easier-to-use Optical Viewfinder even when Corrected AF frame function is set to OFF.
