Feiyu Announces Action Camera Ricca
News

The Action camera market is seeing a surge of activity this year and now Feiyu, better known for their gimbals, has announced the Ricca.

The Ricca looks to be one of the most interesting action camera releases since the GoPro Hero 7 Black.

Why? Feiyu’s knowledge of image stabilisation and gimbal systems means that this new camera could well challenge GoPro’s Hypersmooth when it comes to professional looking footage from a compact action camera.

It looks as though the camera’s built-in electronic image stabilisation is boosted by an external mechanical gimbal to offer unparalleled six-axis stabilisation.

This would make it ideal for sports and activities such as running, cycling and chasing. I’m not 100% sure what chasing is but it’s highlighted in the release.

The Ricca camera really looks to boost action camera quality and seeing as how Feiyu has chosen NAB to announce this new camera I’m already excited about the prospects.

Feiyu has already stated that the camera will have night / low light performance that is better than it’s rivals and uses a variety of image enhancement algorithms to help reduce noise.

A full specifications list hasn’t yet been released but the camera will shoot 4K video at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, and has 4X slow motion with a 155º super wide angled lens. It also captures video in either H264 or H265.

Inside Feiyu has gone for a 12 million pixel IMX377 Exmor R CMOS sensor, we’ve already seen excellent performance from this sensor in the SJCAM SJ8 Pro.

As ever there will be a supporting App.

We’ll bring you more on the new camera when we get a review sample.
