Facebook Live adds support for 360 4K video, official Live 360 Ready cameras

Facebook as added support for 360-degree video in 4K resolution within its Facebook Live platform, the social media giant has announced.

As well as increasing the resolution of its livestreams, Facebook says the the streams are also available to view in virtual reality (via Samsung Gear VR; Facebook’s 4K 360 video doesn’t yet support Oculus Rift).

Facebook has also revealed a new partnership program with select 360 camera manufacturers. The program will start with 10 360 cameras that Facebook will certify as ‘Live 360 Ready.’

The list includes the Garmin VIRB 360, Insta360’s Air, Nano and Pro, Nokia’s Ozo Orah 4i, the Giroptic iO, ION360 U, MOTO 360 camera, Z CAM S1, the new 360Fly 4K Pro.

Facebook is also expanding the options available with Live 360 videos, including donate buttons, scheduling of live broadcasts and allowing verified pages to boost their Live 360 broadcasts.

Facebook’s new Live 360 updates will also support heatmaps in your Video Insights section provided you have 20,000 unique active viewers.
