DxOMark Image Labs has announced it will begin rolling out DxOMark Selfie, a new scoring system for the image quality provided by the front camera on a smartphone.

DxOMark says the new Selfie score is arrived at ‘using a dedicated scientific protocol based on both objective measurements and perceptual analyses of images taken with the tested device.’

In real terms, DxOMark says its Selfie scores will be based on tests including more than 1,500 selfie and ‘groufie’ (let’s hope this word doesn’t become a thing) images and more than two hours of video.

All media is shot in a range of lighting conditions, both indoors and outside.

The DxOMark Selfie rankings will be displayed separately from its Mobile scores.
