The DJI Zenmuse X7 drone camera not only boasts DJI’s best camera sensor but outperforms the Panasonic GH5 and other top APS-C format cameras, according to DxO.

The DxOMark review, written by Camera Jabber’s Reviews Editor Angela Nicholson, ranks the Zenmuse X7’s sensor above the flagship Panasonic GH5. As Angela states in her conclusion:

The Panasonic GH4 (recently been replaced by the GH5) has been a popular choice of camera for drone use, but our results indicate that the Zenmuse X7 could be a better choice of camera for aerial photography than the GH5, as it delivers better color sensitivity, dynamic range, and low-light performance.

She also found that the Zenmuse X7 scores very well against other APS-C format cameras, such as the highly regarded Nikon D7500.

“The Zenmuse X7 has got the largest sensor in a DJI camera designed for use a in a drone,” Angela says. “So while some people might be looking for ways to mount a mirrorless system camera or DSLR in a drone, DJI has stripped away the excess weight, created its own lens mount and lenses and mounted the camera in a gimbal that will take out the shakes and buffeting from wind.

“One thing to remember here, of course, is that DXOMark tests the sensor without a lens, and the imapct of the gimbal is also not assessed. But the Zenmuse X7 looks like a serious bit of kit and I think a lot of people will think of it as a flying SLR with extra video capability.”
