DJI updates Ronin S to support Fuji X-T3, Sony A9, Canon EOS RP

DJI has issued a massive firmware update for the Ronin-S, Ronin-SC and Ronin 2 that adds support for a number of popular cameras, such as the Fuji X-T3, Sony A9, Canon EOS RP, EOS M50 and more.

Available now, the new firmware updates are version 1.9.0.80 for the Ronin-S, version 1.1.0.0 for the Ronin-SC and version 1.5.0.80 for the Ronin 2. Each of the new DJI Ronin firmware updates can be accessed and installed via the DJI Assistant app.

Details of the new DJI Ronin firmware updates include:

Ronin-S Firmware v 1.9.0.80

  • Added video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Sony A9 and A6400 cameras with supported E-mount lenses using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Micro-USB). To use autofocus on the Sony A9 and A6400, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal
  • Added photo capture, video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Canon EOS RP cameras with supported RF mount lenses using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-C). To use autofocus on the Canon EOS RP, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added photo capture, video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Canon M50 cameras with supported EF-M mount lenses using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Micro-USB). To use autofocus on the Canon M50, press halfway down on the camera control button on the gimbal.
  • Added photo capture, video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Canon EOS 6D and EOS 80D cameras with supported EF mount lenses using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Mini USB). To use autofocus on the Canon EOS 6D and EOS 80D, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added photo capture, video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Panasonic G9 cameras with supported Macro 4/3 mount lenses using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Micro USB). To use autofocus on the Panasonic G9, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added photo capture, autofocus, video recording, and focus pull support for Panasonic S1 cameras with supported L mount lenses using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-C). To use autofocus on the Panasonic S1, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added photo capture and autofocus for Fujifilm XT2 cameras using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Micro USB). To use autofocus on the Fujifilm XT2, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added photo capture and autofocus for Fujifilm XT3 camera using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-C). To use autofocus on the Fujifilm XT3, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added support for Ronin 2 Remote Controller. The DJI Pro Wireless Receiver and Ronin-MX/S CAN Cable are required to use the Ronin 2 Remote Controller with Ronin-S. Note that the mode switch feature is not currently available (requires Ronin 2 Remote Controller firmware v1.4.0.30 and DJI Pro Wireless Receiver firmware v1.2.0.10).
  • Optimized autofocus for Sony cameras. When the camera is in AF mode, press halfway on the camera control button to focus and release to stop focus.

Ronin-SC Firmware v1.1.0.0

  • Added video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Sony A6000 cameras with supported E-mount lenses using a Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-C) with a Multi-Camera Control Adapter (Type-C to Micro USB). To use autofocus on the Sony A6000, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added photo capture, video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Canon EOS RP cameras with supported RF mount lenses using Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-C). To use autofocus on the Canon EOS RP, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal.
  • Added Advanced Calibration feature. If the roll axis drifts after recentering the gimbal, enter the DJI Ronin app then System Status and select Advanced Calibration to fix the issue (requires DJI Ronin app v1.2.2 or later).
  • Added support for Ronin-S Command Unit.
  • Added support for Ronin 2 Remote Controller. The DJI Pro Wireless Receiver and Ronin-MX/S CAN Cable are required to use the Ronin 2 Remote Controller with Ronin-SC. Note that the mode switch feature is not currently available (requires Ronin 2 Remote Controller firmware v1.4.0.30 and DJI Pro Wireless Receiver firmware v1.2.0.10).
  • Added quick switch to 3D Roll 360 mode. Press M button three times to enter, and press three times again to exit.
  • Added Auto 3D Roll 360. When the gimbal is in 3D Roll 360 mode, push the joystick left or right twice to enable Auto 3D Roll 360. The gimbal rotates continuously without needing to hold the joystick. Press the trigger twice to stop Auto 3D Roll 360.
  • Added motor overload warning prompt in the DJI Ronin app. The warning prompt appears once the power of any axis exceeds 100. If this occurs, check if the camera is properly balanced and make sure the gimbal axis locks are in the unlocked position (requires DJI Ronin v1.2.2 app or later).
  • Optimized 3D Roll 360.
  • Optimized autofocus for Sony cameras. When the camera is in AF mode, press halfway on the camera control button to focus and release to stop focus.
  • Optimized focus for Canon, Sony, Nikon, and Panasonic cameras. The focus speed can be set from 1 to 100, replacing the previous settings of Slow, Medium, and Fast (requires DJI Ronin v1.2.2 app or later).
  • When using Canon, Nikon, and Fujifilm cameras, press the Ronin-SC power button once to disable the USB connection so that playback can be viewed and camera parameters can be set. Press again to enable the USB connection.

Ronin 2 Firmware Update v1.5.0.80

  • Added Roll 360 (operated in flashlight mode). After enabling Roll 360, the gimbal can be used to rotate the camera 360° by using the roll knob on the remote controller or the DJI Master Wheels. Roll 360 is available in Follow, Free, and Recenter mode. Do not rotate the gimbal to the left or right quickly during Roll 360.

  • Added ability to use the roll axis angle adjustment knob of the DJI Master Wheels to control the roll angle of the gimbal (requires DJI Master Wheels firmware v1.2.0.10 or later).

  • Added ability to use the Ronin 2 CAN Bus Control Cable to control the gimbal.

  • Added ability to use the Ronin 2 Remote Controller to control Ronin-S and Ronin-SC. The DJI Pro Wireless Receiver and Ronin-MX/S CAN Cable are required to use the Ronin 2 Remote Controller with Ronin-S or Ronin-SC (requires Ronin-S firmware v1.9.0.80 or later and Ronin-SC firmware v1.1.0.0 or later).

  • Increased auto tune speed.

  • Fixed issue: the pan motor made abnormal sounds when push was enabled in Follow mode.

  • Fixed issue: the gimbal rotated abnormally after switching from Upright mode to Underslung mode. Press and hold the pause button on Ronin 2 to enter sleep mode before switching the gimbal. After switching, press and hold the pause button again to exit sleep mode.

  • Fixed issue: the gimbal shook abnormally after being connected to the DJI Master Wheels for an extended period.1.2.0.10

What’s more, DJI has also released firmware version 1.5.0.80 for its Master Wheels controller. This adds:

  • Added ability to use the roll axis angle adjustment knob of the DJI Master Wheels to control the roll angle of the gimbal (requires DJI Ronin-2 firmware v1.5.0.80 or later).
  • Added support for DJI Ronin-S and DJI Ronin-SC (requires DJI Ronin-S firmware v1.9.0.80 or later and DJI Ronin-SC firmware v1.1.0.0 or later).
