DJI unveils new Osmo+ camera with up to 7x zoom lens

DJI has announced the DJI Osmo+ – price $649 – an update to its popular Osmo gimbal camera which introduces a new zoom lens.

The new DJI camera employs a 3.5x optical zoom lens and up to 7x digital zoom, which isn’t huge by photography standards but marks a large improvement on its predecessor’s, the Oslo’s, fixed focal length.

Overall, the DJI Osmo+ offers an equivalent focal length of 22-77mm. However, it’s worth noting that to record at the wider end of the digital zoom you need to reduce your resolution from 4K to 1080p.

Otherwise you can record 4K video on the DJI Osmo+ at 30 frames per second.

The DJI Osmo+ features a Zenmuse X3 Zoom camera, which boasts a 12.4-million-pixel, 1/2.3in Sony Exmoor R CMOS image sensor.

This is the same sensor as found in the original Osmo, but the new camera is a variation of the Zenmuse Z3 aerial camera DJI launched earlier this summer.

Other features of the DJI Osmo+ include a variable aperture of f/2.8 at the wider end of the zoom, which stops down to f/5.2 when using the digital zoom.

What’s more, DJI announced it will also be seeing the Osmo+ Zenmuse X3 zoom camera on its own for $499.
