DJI Ronin RS3 Pro Review
News

DJI has announced its latest gimbal stabilisers, introducing the Ronin RS 3 and Ronin RS 3 Pro, price tag from £469 / €549 and £749 / €869, respectively, with a raft of new improvements and design features to enhance performance. You can pre-order the new DJI gimbals and accessores from B&H Photo Video.

DJI Ronin RS 3 Specs

Chief among the improvements are a redesigned axes-locking system that makes it fully automated. When you turn on the new Ronin RS 3 or Ronin RS 3 Pro, the automated axis locks release and unfold the gimbal.

You can also now send your Ronin into sleep mode simply by tapping the power button once, and position memory via its quick-release plates eliminates the need for repetitive balancing.

DJI is also promising a 20% improvement in performance over the Ronin RSC 2 thanks to changes to its Stabilization Algorithm. The tweaks mean you can now shoot at low angles, run or even film from a moving vehicle much easier.

Also new is a 1.8-inch OLED colour touchscreen that marks an 80% increase in surface area compared to the Ronin RSC 2. The touchscreen allows you to set up most of the gimbal’s functions without having to connect to the mobile app. There’s also a new physical gimbal mode switch that lets you move between pan follow, pan and tilt follow and FPV modes.

The Ronin RS 3 weighs in at 1.3kg (2.8lbs), with a payload capacity of 3kg (6.6lbs) should cover most cameras.

DJI Ronin RS 3 Price & Release Date

DJI RS 3 price tag will be £469 / €549 for a kit that includes the gimbal, BG21 Grip, USB-C Charging Cable, Lens-Fastening Support, Extended Grip/Tripod (Plastic), Quick-Release Plates, Multi-Camera Control Cable, and Screw Kit.

A DJI RS 3 Combo kit is priced at £619 / €719 and includes one Briefcase Handle, Focus Motor (2022), Focus Motor Rod Kit, Focus Gear Strip, a second Multi-Camera Control Cable, and one Carrying Case.

DJI Ronin RS 3 Pro Specs

The DJI Ronin RS 3 Pro is the company’s flagship gimbal and is constructed from one piece of uncut carbon fibre, making it lighter and stronger than the jointed material used on previous Ronin gimbals. What’s more, the arms have been extended to accommodate commonly used professional cameras like the Canon EOS C70, Sony FX6 and RED Komodo.

As a result, the RS 3 Pro weighs 1.5kg (3.3lbs) and can support a payload of 4.5kg (10lbs). Like the RS 3, the Ronin RS 3 Pro also features the automated axis locks, gimbal mode switch and 1.8-inch OLED touchscreen.

The Ronin RS 3 Pro also employs Ronin 4D’s LiDAR focusing technology for use with manual lenses. This creates the new DJI LiDAR Range Finder, which is capable of 43,200 ranging points within a 14-meter indoor area.

The RS3 Pro’s focus motor now provides three times more torque, enabling autofocus on manual lenses with no need for repetitive calibration.

What’s more, the LiDAR Range Finder carries a DJI-developed chip identical to the one used in Ronin 4D and a built-in 30mm camera, boosting the computing power of ActiveTrack by more than 60 times, creating ActiveTrack Pro.

Design-wise, the Ronin RS 3 Pro has dual RSA/NATO and battery ports that allow it to connect to a wide range of accessories, including the new Briefcase Handle. DJI has also opened up its SDK to third-party manufacturers, so more Ronin RS 3 Pro accessories are bound to follow.
