DJI has established a training program in The Netherlands to teach firefighters, paramedics and other search and rescue personnel how to fly drones.

The training program is designed to teach first responders how to use drones for tactical operations such as inspecting infrastructure, locating people and using drones to obtain situational awareness in an incident scene.

The drone manufacturer has launched the program in partnership with Space53, an Enschede-based organisation that develops unmanned systems.

The two firms have pledged to develop standard operating procedures and begin training rescue workers in conjunction with the Twente Fire Department.

Earlier this year, DJI released a survey showing that some 59 people had been rescued from life-threatening situations thanks to drones.
