DJI has launched a new racing edition of its drone racing goggles and a companion camera unit to offer users a real-time, first-person view of their aircraft.

DJI Goggles RE are priced £549 and feature a new metallic matte black visor with red leather padding.

DJI has also developed an external OcuSync Air Unit and camera module that users can install or mount on any drone, which DJI says provides a low-latency, 1280×960 HD video transmission for a first-person view from the drone.

The OcuSync Air Unit’s camera boasts a 1/3-inch image sensor and provides a 148-degree field of view.

When paired with the DJI OcuSync Air Unit, DJI says its new goggles play back videos through 2.4 or 5.8 GHz digital video transmission with latency as low as 50 ms and a maximum control range of up to 7km.

The OcuSync Air Unit also comes with three sets of antennas for different flight scenarios, and the Goggles RE can also display 360-degree video.

The OcuSync Air Unit is also compatible with other multi-rotor and fixed-wing aircraft and offers automatic Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum to maintain unobstructed transmission, as well as access to up to 12 selectable transmission channels.

Priced at £549, the DJI Goggles RE release date will be the end of November. A DJI Goggles RE Combo pack includes the goggles, one DJI OcuSync Air System (which includes the OcuSync Air Unit, Camera and Antennas) and one DJI Goggles Carry More Backpack, is priced at £899.
