Consumer DJI drones to get new aircraft detection in 2020

News

From January 1, 2020, all new consumer DJI drone models weighing more than 250g will feature the company’s AirSense technology for detecting commercial aircraft.

AirSense relies on a built-in ADS-B receiver that picks up signals from nearby planes and helicopters and then warns drone pilots if they appear to be on a path to collision.

DJI previously included the technology in its professional drones and will now be rolling it out on a wider scale.

DJI says the technology can pick up signals from miles away, long before a drone pilot can hear or see the aircraft, giving them time to get out of the way.

The video below explains how the technology works.
