Canon has announced two full-frame wide-angle RF mount lenses, the RF 24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM price £719.99 / €819.99 and RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM price £669.99 / €759.99.
According to Canon, the two new lenses feature advanced lens technology in a lightweight and compact size.
Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM
The compact Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM weighs just 270g and has image stabilisation (IS) built in, plus a large maximum aperture of f/1.8 to make it ideal for use in low light. Its aperture is formed from 9 blades with a rounded shape for attractive bokeh.
While it covers a full-frame sensor, the RF 24mm F1.8 Macro can be used on Canon’s APS-C format R-series cameras, the Canon EOS R7 and Canon EOS R10 on which it produces an effective focal length of around 35mm.
A gear type STM motor is said to enable fast and quiet focusing and the minimum focusing distance is 14cm (0.5x magnification).
As well as a dedicated focus ring, Canon has given the RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM a customisable Lens Control Ring for adjusting ISO or aperture or changing the AF method quickly.
The lens is constructed from 11 elements in 9 groups and features super spectra coating to prevent ghosting and flare. There’s also a 5-stop Optical Image Stabilizer, which increases to 6.5-stops of IS when the lens is used on an EOS R series camera with in-body stabilisation.
Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM
The Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is designed for travel and landscape photography or vlogging. It’s a full-frame lens, but on an APS-C format camera it produces an effective focal length range of around 24-48mm.
The RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM has a 5.5-stop Optical Image Stabilizer which enables up to 7EV stabilisation on a Canon R-series camera with in-body stabilisation.
Another lightweight lens, the compact RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM weighs just 390g. It features a leadscrew-type STM focusing motor to enable quick yet quiet focusing on fast moving subjects when shooting stills or video.
The RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM features a combined focus and Lens Control Ring and is capable of producing images with up to 0.52x magnification at the 15mm point in manual focus mode.
Canon has constructed the lens using aspherical and precision moulded elements and lens coatings.
