Canon has had considerable success in the vlogging market with compact cameras such as the PowerShot G7X Mark III and mirrorless cameras like the EOS M50 and EOS M50 Mark II proving popular amongst those wishing to turn the camera on themselves. Now the Canon PowerShot V10 has been announced as an entry-level vlogging camera offering some of the attractive features of the PowerShot G7X Mark II.

The combination of a large (1-inch type) stacked BSI CMOS sensor in a compact camera with a bright lens are major selling points for the PowerShot G7X Mark III and both of these features have made it into the new Canon PowerShot V10. The V10’s f/2.8 lens has an effective focal length of 19mm, which is ideal for vlogging with the camera at arm’s length.

According to Canon, the PowerShot V10’s sensor has a total pixel count of around 30 million pixels, but the number it uses depends upon the video resolution and which of the 14 aspect ratios is selected, it’s usually between 15 and 20MP for stills. The array of aspect ratios enables the camera to produce video and images that are suitable for use on a wide range of platforms including Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

The Canon PowerShot V10 can shoot 4K video at up to 30p with a maximum sensitivity setting of ISO 3200 or Full HD video at up to 60P with a maximum sensitivity setting of ISO 6400. There’s a maximum recording time of one hour.

Its focusing system is driven by contrast detection rather than phase detection, but face detection is onboard.

While the PowerShot V10 can shoot still images, it’s primarily designed for shooting video. It has a selection of useful features for video including Canon’s Movie Digital IS, Auto Level, Movie Auto ND filter (up to 3 stops) and skin smoothing for video.
