New patents from Canon and Nikon have been discovered online which reveal the technology behind new lenses designed for future full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The patents were discovered by hiLowsNote and reveal a Canon 16-28mm f/2.8 lens designed for mirrorless. According to the patent, its specs include:

Zoom ratio: 1.67
Focal length: 16.48 – 27.44mm
F number: 2.88
Half angle: 52.70 – 38.25
Image height: 21.64mm
Back focus: 12.33 – 10.00mm

Meanwhile, Nikon filed a patent just this week for a folding lens with a shutter unit, which is designed for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras.

Canon full-frame mirrorless and Nikon full-frame mirrorless cameras have been long-rumoured, even promulgated by the companies themselves – and even their rivals. We expect we’ll probably see announcements ahead of Photokina this year.
