Canon seeks crowdfunding for new IVY REC clippable camera
News

Indiegogo has announced that Canon will launch a new clippable camera called the IVY REC on its crowdfunding platform.

The Canon IVY REC appears to have few direct controls and no LCD, which suggests it will be controlled via your smartphone.

Canon gives away some of its specs on the campaign’s holding page, including a 13-megapixel 1/3-inch CMOS sensor and full HD video recording at up to 60fps.

The Canon IVY REC is also waterproof for up to 30 minutes at depths of 1m/3.3 feet. Canon says it’s also shockproof and features built-in Bluetooth and WiFi.

The IVY line already exists for Canon and comprises the IVY CLIQ+ instant printer and IVY Mobile Mini Photo Printer. The IVY REC, however, doesn’t appear to be a printer.

This appears to be Canon’s first time going to market via a crowdfunding platform, and the company is promising early bird discounts of up to 30% when it goes live.

This news follows reports last week in Japanese media that Canon is set to release a trio of concept cameras it showed off earlier in the year.
