Canon has launched a version of its full-frame mirrorless EOS R dedicated to astrophotography, introducing the EOS Ra – price tag $2,499/£2599.99 / €3019.99.

The Canon EOS Ra features a 30.3-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor paired with its latest DIGIC 8 image processor. This is the same set-up found in the EOS R, but Canon says it has removed the IR filter from the Ra’s sensor which allows it to better capture the night sky.

The Canon Ra also offers a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system with 5,655 AF points around the frame. It also boasts a modified filter for recording the night sky.

The Canon EOS Ra follows in the footsteps of previous Canon astrophotography cameras adapted from its popular consumer models, such as the EOS 60Da.

Other features include 4K video capability at 30p with Canon Log and 10-bit 4:2:2 HDMI Output, as well as a 3.69-million-dot EVF and vari-angle touchscreen.
