The Canon EOS 200D / SL2 is, on paper, a replacement for the EOS 100D / SL1, but in Canon’s own words… only “kind of”.
This is because the EOS 200D / SL2 spec sheet marks a total revamp over Canon’s previous entry-level offering.
On board the Canon 200D / SL2 is a newly developed 24.2-megapixel sensor, a jump in resolution from the 18MP sensor on the 100D / SL1.
The new Canon camera also employs the company’s DIGIC 7 processing engine, while the 100D / SL1 uses the 14-bit DIGIC 5 processor.
Another signature feature of the Canon EOS 200D / Rebel SL2 is its vari-angle touchscreen LCD. Because the camera is aimed at those making their first leap into interchangeable lens photography, Canon says it felt a touchscreen would provide that natural transition from smartphones to a DSLR.
You’ll also find a revamped interface with guides on how certain features and technology work, even graphics that illustrate the effect.
Canon said it has also streamlined the body design of the EOS 200D / Rebel SL2 so as to bridge the transition from smartphones. A new simpler button layout focuses on key controls and less distraction.
Other features include Canon’s Dual Pixel 45-point AF system in live view, which covers 80% of the frame.
In terms of connectivity, the Canon 200D / Rebel SL2 also offers built-in WiFi, NFC and Bluetooth compatibility.
The Canon 200D / Rebel SL2 comes in three colours – black, silver and white.
