Canon will launch a World Press Photo virtual reality experience that promises to be unique to every viewer in Edinburgh next month, the company has announced.

Canon has sponsored the World Press Photo exhibition for the past 25 years and this year is launching a new initiative that aims to tell the stories behind the competition’s winning images in virtual reality.

The exhibition, which opens in Edinburgh on 4 August 2017, will feature a virtual gallery that Canon says will offer a unique immersive experience to every viewer.

The exhibition arrives from Amsterdam, where it launched in April, and showcases 45 winning images from the 60th World Press Photo Contest.

What’s more, you can experience the stories behind these images at home by downloading the free World Press Photo VR app from the Oculus Store.

The app was developed by the team behind its irista photo management platform and is narrated by Magnum legend Stuart Franklin, who is chair of the 2017 World Press Photo Content general jury.
