Canon has launched a new Sumire Prime seres of seven prime cinema lenses with an interchangeable PL mount, consisting of the CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X, CN-E20mm T1.5 FP X, CN-E24mm T1.5 FP X, CN-E35mm T1.5 FP X, CN-E50mm T1.3 FP X, CN-E85mm T1.3 FP X and CN-E135mm T2.2 FP X.
The Sumire Prime lenses’ interchangeable PL mount means that each optic can be changed to a Canon EF mount and back to PL. This makes them compatible with a wider number of cameras, from Super 35mm to Cinema EOS and Canon EOS full-frame options, as well as third-party full-frame cameras.
The new CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X, CN-E20mm T1.5 FP X, CN-E24mm T1.5 FP X, CN-E35mm T1.5 FP X, CN-E50mm T1.3 FP X, CN-E85mm T1.3 FP X and CN-E135mm T2.2 FP X Sumire Prime lenses feature an 11-blade iris with a large-diameter aspheric element and anomalous dispersion glass.
The large lens diameter is what allows Canon to provide brighter T numbers, meaning these lenses should be solid performers in low light.
All seven Sumire Prime lenses adopt the same 0.8 pitch lens gears for both iris and focus rings and are positioned consistently on each lens. All of the lenses also feature the same front diameter. This means you don’t need to adjust rigging accessories when replacing lenses during a shoot.
Canon says that all seven Sumire Prime lenses also have carefully developed focus resistance, which enables delicate and fine focus adjustments over a 300-degree rotation angle.
What’s more, Canon says its new Sumire Prime lenses match the same warm colour tones as the company’s full Cinema lens range, providing consistency for cinematographers.
