Canon teases ‘advanced’ EOS R model in financial statements

Canon to focus on professional and advanced-amateur camera models in 2020

News

Canon plans to launch an ‘advanced’ EOS R camera and believes demand for professional and advanced camera models is stable, the company has said.

Releasing its financial results for the 2019 fiscal year, Canon acknowledged the tough trading in the imaging industry and said it expects a similar rate of market contraction to continue through 2020.

However, Canon said at the same time it is seeing ‘stable demand for professional and advanced-amateur models.’

To maintain profitability, Canon plans to focus on this sector. The company then goes on to describe, generally, its plans for an advanced EOS R camera.

Could this be the 75-megapixel high-resolution EOS R previously rumoured? Or possibly the 45-megapixel, 8K EOS R5 rumoured this week?

It’s likely we’ll know by Photokina 2020, and possibly even by CP+ 2020 later in February.
