Blackmagic Design has announced an update to their popular video editing application DaVinci Resolve. This latest version, DaVinci Resolve 17.4, boosts several features and optimises performance for Apples new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

The new technology offered by Apple enables huge power and speed increases. Blackmagic Design’s enhanced software can now handle the playback, edit and grade of 8K video footage and work with up to 12 streams of this high-resolution video footage.

Not only is the performance for handling 8K footage increased, but DaVinci Resolve 17.4 also accelerates the decoding speed of 12k Blackmagic RAW files; this makes it three times faster than before. H. 265 rendering also sees a boost of one point five.

DaVinci Neutral Engine enables real-time facial recognition, object detection and smart rendering and is up to four times faster than the previous release. ProMotion 120Hz displays are now fully supported, helping with smooth playback and Apple MacBook HDR displays.

Workflow has also been improved with Dropbox replay integration so teams can review and approve video easily.

The new features and performance boost updates have been applied to Edit, Fusion, Color, Fairlight and Deliver.
