In a surprise to nobody, Atomos has announced that it is developing Apple ProRes RAW support for the recently announced Sony A1 at up to 4.3K 60p.

Designed for professional content creators, the Sony A1 has a 50.1Mp full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with integrated memory and an upgraded Bionz XR processor. Using it with the Ninja V will enable 16-bit raw video to be compressed and recorded as 12-bit ProRes RAW.

Shooting raw format video enables extensive white balance, colour and exposure adjustments to be made in Final Cut Pro.

The codec brings the ability to capture 12-bit raw in the same file sizes as 10-bit 4:2:2 standard ProRes. Apple ProRes RAW files are also smaller than other raw file types, making file transfer faster and easier.
