With a peak brightness of 2200Nits, the Atomos Shinobi 7 is bigger and brighter than the original Shinobi, which means it can be used in brighter ambient light. In fact, according to Atomos, it can be used in very bright conditions without the need for a hood or for the conversion of Log inputs for HDR monitoring.

While the 7-inch screen is suitable for camera-mounting and vlogging, it’s also designed to meet the needs of directors and focus pullers.

Thanks to its touchscreen, the Shinobi 7 can be used to take control over camera features and controls aspects such as the aperture (iris,) white balance, shutter angle and ND.

An optional Atomos USB-C to serial cable also gives the Shinobi support for the Z Cam E2 series camera, straight from the box, with direct control of the menu configurations.

There are also USB and RJ45 control ports on the Shinobi 7 for future developments.

The Shinobi 7 screen has a dynamic range of over 10EV in real time from Log/PQ/HLG signals. Combined with Atomos’s unique HDR monitoring features, it also simplifies shooting Log and HDR footage by helping to replicate post-production workflows while shooting.

The onboard Adaptive Cooling technology also enables reduced fan noise or the peak brightness of the display to be prioritised depending upon what’s required.

As well as Log to HDR conversions, the Shinobi 7 allows custom 3D LUT to be fed downstream to other devices or the live feed.  Up to 8 custom LUTs can be installed at any time via the SD card slot and you can swap between them quickly and easily.

Dual battery slots

Atomos has given the Shinobi 7 two battery slots which means that batteries can be hot-swapped while shooting.

There’s also dedicated locking DC input for a mains power supply, or the Shinobi 7 can be used with the optional DC to D-TAP cable for powering via V-lock batteries.

In addition, the Atomos Shinobi 7 has the new Analysis feature to enable simultaneous viewing of the recording with a waveform, histogram and vectorscope.
