Atomos has announced the launch of its Shinobi II monitor, a slim, lightweight, high-brightness, 5-inch 1500nit HDR monitor designed for vloggers, creatives, and photographers. Known for its market-leading Apple ProRes HDR monitor recorders, Atomos’ new monitor-only device addresses user requests for camera control and a brighter HDR screen.
Atomos CEO Jeromy Young stated, “Shinobi II has been rebuilt from the ground up for modern mirrorless/DSLR cameras and HDR or SDR video workflows, as well as amazing HDR photo shooting.” The Shinobi II can control most Canon, Panasonic, and Sony mirrorless cameras over USB-C, and Z CAM E2 models through a separate serial cable, with plans to support additional brands through future firmware updates.
The Shinobi II offers sliders for adjusting lens aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance. Its touchscreen, now 50% brighter than its predecessor at 1500nits, supports 10-bit HDR video and photo monitoring with zero latency. The monitor is 30% thinner and weighs only 210 grams. It features locking cable connectors for robust connectivity and the ability to power cameras via PD in and out.
“Incorporating camera control into a monitor of this pedigree, and at this price point, really makes this a possibility for the masses. I look forward to seeing the breadth of projects Shinobi II will be part of, and ultimately how it helps empower customers to create.”
