ASUS has launched the ZenFone 6 which introduces a new motorised 180° Flip Camera that allows its dual-camera system to serve as both front and rear cameras.

The ASUS ZenFone 6’s 48-megapixel main camera uses Sony’s latest IMX586 1/2.0-inch sensor and boasts an f/1.79 aperture. The ZenFone 6’s secondary ultra-wide camera offers 13-megapixel resolution and a 125° field of view.

The new motorised flip module enables both cameras on the ZenFone 6 to be used at either the front or the rear via a stepper motor that rotates the camera module by up to 180° between the front and rear camera positions.

This means there’s no need for a notch on the ZenFone 6’s 6.4-inch, Gorilla Glass 6 display.

In Free Angle mode users can position the Flip Camera at any angle to frame subjects from all vantage points. ASUS has also programmed the ZenFone 6 Flip Camera to automatically return to its module when the phone is dropped.

Other new shooting modes include Motion Tracking (for automatic subject tracking in videos) Auto Panorama, HDR+ Enhanced and Super Night mode.

Video-wise, the ZenFone 6 is capable of 4K UHD (3840 by 2160) video recording at 30 and 60fps on the main camera, and 4K at 30fps with the secondary camera.

You can also record 1080p Full HD video at 30 and 60fps or 720p HD video recording at 30fps. You can record slow motion video in 1080p at 240fps and 720p at 480fps, as well as 4K UHD time-lapse videos.

The ASUS ZenFone 6 also provides 3-axis electronic image stabilisation.

Inside the ZenFone 6 is the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and a large 5000mAh battery that ASUS says delivers up to two days of non-stop use on a single charge.

The ASUS ZenFone 6 price tag starts at £499 for the model with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM. The price rises to £599 for the version with 256GB storage and 8GB RAM.
