Apple has announced the iPhone 11 with a new dual-camera and the iPhone 11 Pro with a triple-camera system.

The iPhone 11 has a wide and ultra-wide camera and the iPhone 11 Pro adds a 120mm telephoto module. 

Price and Availability

While the iPhone 11’s price starts at $699/£729, the iPhone 11 Pro is set to retail from $999, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max $1,099. All three phones are available to order from this Friday and will ship on September 20th.

The iPhone 11 is available in six colours, purple, green, yellow, black, white and PRODUCT(RED) with capacities of 64GB, 128GB or 256GB. It’s also possible to purchase the iPhone 11 for £21.99 a month or £529 with trade-in from apple.com, in the Apple Store app and Apple Stores. 

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will be available in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB models in midnight green, space grey, silver and gold starting at £1,049 and £1,149, respectively.

It’s also possible to buy the iPhone 11 Pro for £30.99 a month or £759 with trade-in and iPhone 11 Pro Max for £34.99 a month or £859 with trade-in from apple.com/uk, in the Apple Store app and Apple Stores.

Apple iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 has a dual-camera system with a new Night mode for photos in low light.

It’s powered by the A13 Bionic chip, has an 18-hour battery and has improved water resistance with an IP68 rating which means it can survive down to 2 metres for up to 30 minutes.

Design and Display

The back of the iPhone 11 is milled and sculpted from a single piece of glass which Apple claims is the toughest glass in a smartphone to date.

Apple has used a 6.1-inch all-screen Liquid Retina display with wide colour support and True Tone. Meanwhile, the iOS 13 will enable app shortcuts for everyday tasks straight from the Home screen, including taking a selfie in Camera, checking an appointment in Calendar or previewing email within Mail with just a press.

A13 Bionic — Fastest Chip in a Smartphone

Thanks to the A13 Bionic chip, the iPhone 11 is up to 20% than the previous incarnation. The new chip can also use machine learning, and the Neural Engine for real-time photo and video analysis, along with Machine Learning Accelerators that enable the CPU to deliver more than 1 trillion operations per second.

New Dual-Camera System

The Apple iPhone 11 introduces a dual-camera system with new Ultra Wide and Wide cameras. Both are 4K-enabled and capture video with extended dynamic range.

The dual-camera system lets users switch/zoom between each camera while the Audio Zoom matches the audio to the video framing. They also enable Portrait mode for better people and pet photos with attractive bokeh.

iOS 13 also features powerful video editing tools are accessible to everyone with the ability to rotate, crop, increase exposure and apply filters to videos instantly all within the new, easy-to-use Camera interface.

A new Wide sensor with 100% Focus Pixels also enables Night mode, for better low-light images with more natural colour and reduced noise. 

Next-generation Smart HDR uses advanced machine learning to capture more natural-looking images with beautiful highlight and shadow detail on the subject and in the background. Deep Fusion, coming later this autumn, uses advanced machine learning to do pixel-by-pixel processing of photos, optimising for texture, details and noise in every part of the photo.

For the first time, users can easily record video without switching out of Photo mode with QuickTake by simply holding the shutter button to start recording.

The updated TrueDepth camera introduces a new 12MP camera with a wider field of view to capture more in selfies, and next-generation Smart HDR enables more natural-looking photos. Expressive selfie videos take on a whole new look on the TrueDepth camera, now recording 4K video at up to 60 fps and 120 fps slo-mo.

Additional Features

The new Apple-designed U1 chip uses Ultra Wideband technology, the first ever in a smartphone, for spatial awareness. With iOS 13.1 coming on September 30, AirDrop gets even better with directionally aware suggestions.

Face ID, the most secure facial authentication in a smartphone, gets up to 30% faster and easier to use with improved performance at varying distances and support for more angles.

iOS 13

Apple today announced a new pro line for iPhone with advanced performance. These phones feature the new Super Retina XDR display which is the brightest display ever on an iPhone and the A13 Bionic chip.

Users can easily zoom between each of the three cameras, while Audio Zoom matches the audio to the video framing for more dynamic sound. With iOS 13, video editing tools offer the ability to rotate, crop, increase exposure and apply filters to videos instantly. These adjustments are easy to apply and review at a glance, so even a novice can create professional quality video projects.

The triple-camera system takes Portrait mode to a new level with the ability to choose Wide and Telephoto framing, enabling Portrait mode with a wider field of view for group shots. The Telephoto camera features a larger ƒ/2.0 aperture to capture 40% more light compared to iPhone Xs.
