There are few action cameras that really offer something unique, or new. However, from the instant, the ApeMan Trawo arrived there’s just been something a little different, something that separates this camera from the mainstream.
It starts with the weight of the box which to be honest is significant, so much so that it was hard to believe a small lightweight camera was the main object of the contents.
On opening, the camera was revealed alongside mounts, instructions and everything aside from a memory card that you need to get started.
The camera, unlike the box, is lightweight, although sizewise it is just a touch larger than most other action cameras.
The design follows the traditional camera in a waterproof housing approach, but the housing is refined and by far the best-designed case I’ve seen. Flat lens, side lock, foam padding and mud resistant buttons.
Out of the case and the camera itself is nicely designed with large LCD on the back, decent 170º field of view lens, ports and card slot on the side and proper hinged battery door on the base.
Spec looks good too with 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps, then there’s all the usual modes and settings including timelapse and some manual adjustment.
An app is also supplied and this all connects quickly and without issue.
Specifications all add up and match what I’d expect for a camera in this price range. A touch screen and some sensors would be nice but would inevitably inflate the price.
I’m also a little unsure why the Trawo is a touch larger than other action cameras, but in the grand scheme of things, a couple of millimetres doesn’t worry me too much.
