Adobe planning significant Lightroom Classic update

News

Adobe is planning to roll out a major update to its Lightroom Classic platform, promising faster image imports and exports and addressing some of the software’s key performance issues.

DPReview reports that Adobe shared its Lightroom Classic plans with the publication and admitted that improving the software was a ‘top priority.’ Adobe said:

In this upcoming Lightroom Classic 7.2 release, we were able to make significant strides with our partners at Intel on addressing key performance issues. We have optimized CPU and memory usage so that performance will scale better across multiple cores on computers with at least 12 GB of RAM.

Adobe told DPReview that the update – which is the beginning of several – will provide:

  • Faster import and preview generation
  • Faster walking of images in the Loupe View
  • Faster rendering of adjustments in Develop
  • Faster batch merge operations of HDR/Panos
  • Faster export

DPReview was given the opportunity to run speed comparisons from version 7.1 vs 7.2 and noted significant boosts in speed when exporting images. However, it noted no change in import speeds.
